Two more national retailers closing stores at Destiny USA - syracuse.com

Syracuse, N.Y. — Stationary chain Papyrus and cosmetics retailer Bare Minerals are both set to close their stores at Destiny USA, according to the mall.

Papyrus is closing all 254 stores in North America. The chain also has stores at Walden Galleria near Buffalo and Eastview Mall near Rochester.

Walden and Destiny are both owned by Syracuse-based Pyramid Management Group.

Papyrus has about 1,400 employees at its stores, according to USA Today. The company was founded in Tennessee in 1950 by Marcel and Margrit Schurman.

The company also owns the American Greetings and Carlton Cards brands, according to the Indianapolis Star.

"Despite our Herculean efforts to realign our Papyrus and American Greetings stores to fit today’s shopping environment, Schurman Retail Group had to make the difficult decision to close all 254 of our stores in North America," the company said in a statement, according to the Star.

Most of the stores will close in the next four to six weeks, according to USA Today. Final sales are happening now.

Destiny had no information yet on when Bare Minerals will close. The cosmetics and skincare store is part of the Shiseido Group of Japan.

The company said in its annual report last year that it planned to close unprofitable Bare Minerals locations. The brand has stores throughout the U.S.

At Destiny, Bare Minerals is located on the second level of the mall’s Macy’s wing. Papyrus is on the second level near Lord & Taylor.

The two stores are the latest closings this month at Destiny. January is typically a busy month for retail store shutdowns everywhere as companies assess their store footprints following the busy holiday shopping season.
