Stationery Chain Closing All Stores In Connecticut - Farmington, CT Patch

FARMINGTON, CT — The stationery chain Papyrus is closing all its Connecticut stoes as part of a nationwide liquidation.

It once boasted more than 450 stores in the U.S.

Fortune reported that the company is citing "current challenges of the retail industry."

Liquidation sales are already underway at several stores and store cards and branded products will continue to be sold at American Greetings stores, according to the report.

There was no specific closing information from Papyrus parent Schurman Retail Group and a staffer answering the phone at the Farmington location said a final date has not been relayed to stores. Signs at the Danbury store were proclaiming, "everything must go."

The company was founded in 1950 and its products include greeting cards, gift wrap, gift bags, stationery, note cards, journals, unique gift products, and custom printed stationery, invitations, and announcements for all occasions.

Papyrus has a half-dozen strores in Connecticut:

  • Farmington
  • Danbury
  • Westport
  • New Canaan
  • Stamford
  • Greenwich
