Second tenant named for new building at DeWitt retail plaza - syracuse.com

DeWitt, N.Y. — A new tenant has been confirmed for the building going up now at the Marshalls Plaza on Erie Boulevard in DeWitt.

LensCrafters will join Halal Guys in the building, leaving space for one tenant still remaining. Benderson Development, the Marshall Plaza’s developer, confirmed LensCrafters as a tenant this week.

The site's new building is going up near the M&T Bank branch at the property. It'll total 7,000 square feet when finished.

Marshalls Plaza is packed. So are its parking lots. Is any help coming?

The closest LensCrafters to the new location is actually just a bit down Erie Boulevard at ShoppingTown Mall. It's possibly the last national retail tenant left at the property besides the Regal movie theater.

It's not clear yet whether the ShoppingTown store is relocating to the Marshalls Plaza or if LensCrafters will keep both open. But it seems likely the ShoppingTown store will close.

Something similar happened several years ago when the plaza landed Kay Jewelers as a tenant. The chain closed in ShoppingTown with the opening of the new store nearby.

Benderson confirmed last year that Halal Guys would open in the new building. The fast-casual restaurant chain specializes in gyros and chicken.

It's also planning a location at The Marshall student housing complex near Syracuse University.

The new building is the latest expansion of the Marshalls Plaza by Benderson. The company overhauled the site’s main building several years ago and added new tenants including Kay, Party City and Five Below.

It then added an additional building that is now home to Blaze Pizza, CoreLife Eatery, Jersey Mike’s and Smoothie King. Work on the second new building began last year.

One more new structure is planned along Kinne Road at the site of a former drive-through bank branch.
