Spanish fashion retailer headed to Nashville - Nashville Post

Zara, the Spain-based global retailer known for its trendy offerings and home furnishings — and with annual revenues well in excess of the $15 billion mark — will take space at The Mall at Green Hills.

Neither Zara nor mall officials could be reached for comment, but a permit has been filed with the Metro Codes Department showing Zara will take about 36,600 square feet of space at the Green Hills-based retail facility. The Post was unable at publication time to determine if the mall is slated for a Zara fashion or a Zara home furnishings store.

Founded in 1975, Zara operates about 3,000 stores in 96 countries, according to forbes.com. The countries with the most Zara stores are (listed alphabetically) China, France, Italy, Russia, Spain and the United States.

The U.S. was home to 98 stores as of January 2019. The city with a Zara and located within the closest proximity to Nashville is Atlanta. Columbus, Ohio, also is home to a store.

Zara caters to women, children and men with what some call "fast fashion" (reasonably priced clothing produced rapidly and offered by mass-market retailers in response to fast-changing trends) that includes clothing, accessories, shoes, swimwear, beauty products and perfumes. In addtition, Zara Home (a separate entity) offers household and houseware goods such as rugs, furniture, lighting and mirrors.

Rosalia Mera co-founded Zara with her former husband Amancio Ortega. When Mera died in 2013 at 69, she reportedly was the world’s wealthiest self-made woman, with a fortune estimated at more than $6 billion.

Spanish multinational clothing company Inditex now owns Zara.

The looming addition of Zara will come as The Mall at Green Hills preps to welcome Venice, Italy-based Golden Goose Deluxe Brand, a luxury fashion sneaker retailer for which shoes are priced starting at about $300 with some pairs costing up to $600. Read more on that news here.
